First Take: X-Men Apocalypse- Everything they’ve built WILL fall
Spoiler free, as usual.
SYPNOSIS: With the emergence of the world’s first mutant, Apocalypse, the X-Men must unite to defeat his extinction level plan.
Apocalypse has been the most eagerly anticipated superhero film within the critics’ circle, as the trailers have not lived up to expectations (with the exception of THAT cameo in the final trailer). However, Bryan Singer has made a film that puts Fox’s Marvel properties in a really good place going into 2017. The plot, even though it is more complex than the multiple timelines of Days of Future Past, is very good, with some stellar work from Ty Sheridan, Sophie Turner and returning cast members James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender. The film is shot very well, with John Ottman’s score working to its full effect in the big action set pieces. However, there are only a few minor gripes within the film, as it connects almost 16 years of storylines together, so a viewing of the entire X-Men saga is advised. But, it’s better than Batman v Superman- and we’re all glad about that.
RATING- 4/5
