First Take: The Angry Birds Movie- slingshotting to the big screen scene
SYPNOSIS:
Find out why the birds are so angry. When an island populated by happy, flightless birds is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to three unlikely outcasts - Red, Chuck and Bomb - to figure out what the pigs are up to.
This is a very well made film considering the source material that screenwriter Jon Vitti (of Simpsons fame) had to work with, as Angry Birds is funny yet bearable in the grand scheme of animated cinema. Directors Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis do a brilliant job on their first feature film, with some brilliantly executed visual jokes alongside some very well written slapstick comedy. The voice talent is good, with Jason Sudeikis and Peter Dinklage making the 90 minutes fly by. However, there are some minor narrative contrivances that go over the head of younger viewers, but to older audiences, they are very noticeable. It might not be a Pixar level of quality, but a movie franchise might have been born as a result. And who can argue with that?
RATING: 4/5
