First Take: Alice Through The Looking Glass- it’s about time.
SYPNOSIS:
Alice returns to the whimsical world of Wonderland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter.
This film was always going to be a mixed bag, with original director Tim Burton leaving to make Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Luckily, James Bobin does a good job at picking up the baton, as Alice 2 is just as weird and wonderful as the original 2010 film. The script from Linda Woolverton is good yet a little too confusing for younger audiences, with the performances from Mia Wasikowska, Anne Hathaway and Sacha Baron Cohen stealing the show, with the voices of Alan Rickman and Stephen Fry doing the same for their roles. It’s shot brilliantly, with a neat score from Danny Elfman, but this isn’t enough to convince anyone who hasn’t seen the first film to see this one. With X-Men, Warcraft and other big releases opening alongside it, this film may be buried by the superheroes- but it’s a cracking alternative to the big 12a certificate films this half term.
RATING- 3/5
