First Take: Mad Max: Fury Road- It definitely isn’t MEDIOCRE
SYPNOSIS: A woman rebels against a tyrannical ruler in postapocalyptic Australia in search for her home-land with the help of a group of female prisoners, a psychotic worshipper, and a drifter named Max.
George Miller’s post-apocalyptic epic has become a favourite of many critics since it won practically every award at this year’s Oscars, and I can truly understand why- this brutal, yet well made film is heavily reliant on over the top action sequences that use the medium of the big screen very effectively. Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron’s performances as Max and Furiosa respectively are brilliant, and the cinematography from John Seale, with superb editing from Margaret Sixel, adds depth to the chaos and carnage of Fury Road, with the final dimension coming from Junkie XL’s loud and very rock driven score. Miller knows how to direct this stuff, and the way the film is paced makes the near 2 hour runtime just fly by. It’s a film worthy of the War Boys’ approval down in Valhalla, and it’s certainly a lovely day for the art of filmmaking.
RATING- 5/5
