First Take: Captain America: Civil War- Avengers, disassemble.

Spoiler free as usual. Because Phase 3 is here.

SYPNOSIS: Political interference in the Avengers’ activities causes a rift between former allies Captain America and Iron Man.

Marvel have bestowed many great films on us over the last 8 years, Iron Man, Avengers Assemble to name just a few, but Civil War feels like they have achieved perfection. The direction from the Russo Brothers continues to amaze and astonish after their take on Winter Soldier brought critical acclaim to the Cinematic Universe, and this is complemented beautifully by the cinematography from Trent Opaloch, using some great shots during the battle to end all comic book battles. Cast wise, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr drive the narrative forward with ease, and even though many fans are saying that Daniel Bruhl’s Zemo is the worst villain in the Marvel universe, he still plays a very menacing role that ties all of the film’s plotlines together. The action is superb from the minute the film starts, and it’s a brilliant way to open Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe- and that’s before I can even talk about Spider-Man’s appearance and the two post-credits scenes.

THE VERDICT

Civil War is something that Kevin Feige and his team should be proud of- they might have just outdone Deadpool for superhero film of the year.

RATING: 5/5
