First Take: Bastille Day- the French sure know how to do things

This film is also known as The Take in some territories

SYPNOSIS:

A young con artist and former CIA agent embark on an anti-terrorist mission in France

This has been a very mixed film among critics; some loved it, and some had issues with it. I really enjoyed Bastille Day, as it uses ideas that are very much rooted in the here and now to create a very unique action film.

Idris Elba plays the role of ex-CIA agent Sean Briar like he was born to appear in these sort of films; he is cast perfectly with a blend of kick ass chase scenes and intelligence, something complemented beautifully by Game of Thrones’ Richard Madden as pickpocket Michael. James Watkins’ direction is very good, with Tim Maurice-Jones’ cinematography adding to the slick nature of the film. Alex Heffes’ music is modern and upbeat, but the track that plays over the credits (with Idris Elba himself on vocals) surely must be worth the price of admission alone.

THE VERDICT

With very well paced and choreographed action, this is a 92 minute film that just flies by.

RATING- 4/5
