First Take: The Revenant- Leo is literally giving an arm and a leg for that Oscar

Sypnosis: A frontiersman on a fur trading expedition in the 1820s fights for survival after being mauled by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team

So, this is a biggie. 12 nominations. And thoroughly deserved. Alejandro G. Inarritu has made a film that is a literal sensory overload, This is a brutal, harrowing tale of a man fighting to survive, and Leonardo DiCaprio plays that man, Hugh Glass, perfectly, giving all he’s got to the role and bagging that long awaited Oscar in the process. Supporting performances are just as good, with Tom Hardy and Will Poulter showing how well skilled Inarritu is with his direction talents. The cinematography is on another level, with Chivo himself (Emmanuel Lubezski) using very inventive angles to great effect. However, the film is a little too long for my liking, and some scenes (that I won’t give away) are not for the squeamish or anyone who loves animals. But apart from that, this is a brilliant film. Tough to watch, but still a must see.
