First Take: Joy- kicking 2016 off with a bang

Studio released synopsis: the film is the wild true story of Joy Mangano and her Italian-American family across four generations centered on the girl who becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty by inventing the Miracle Mop and becomes a matriarch in her own right.

So, welcome to 2016 and the new review format (frankly the plot in simpler terms doesn’t sell films well). This is a great film to start with, as David O. Russell seems to go from great film to great film. He absolutely nails it yet again. His direction is absolutely faultless, with Linus Sandgren’s cinematography making the film a true big screen experience due to the brilliant construction of every shot. Jennifer Lawrence delivers yet another stunner, with Robert de Niro and Bradley Cooper being the perfect supporting actors for the job. The music choices, both scored and soundtracked are sublime and add an extra flair to an already polished screenplay. It has it’s flaws, but this is some damn fine filmmaking.
