First Take: Othello- a very underrated film indeed

Plot in simpler terms- Shakespeare’s play adapted very lovingly for a 90s audience

This is a very rare beast, as this adaptation stays very much true to the source material, while adding a few new scenes at vital points. It uses the Shakespearean language at it’s heart, and with a cast including Sir Kenneth Branagh, Laurence Fishburne and many others, this just shows the popularity of Shakespeare’s work. It’s directed very well by Oliver Parker, with the cinematography adding to the story perfectly alongside Charlie Mole’s music. It might have flopped at the box office back then (due to the really limited release it got), but this is a very good film.

Smit Rating- 4/5
