First Take: The Good Dinosaur- Pixar go from hero to zero
Plot in simpler terms- dinosaur meets cave boy who teaches the traditional Pixar family values
Now, where do I begin on this film? It feels like Pixar is trying too hard with The Good Dinosaur, especially following the success of Inside Out earlier in the year. For a kids film like this, the plot is good, but there isn’t much in this film that appeals to the die-hard adult fans like myself. The voice acting is OK, the direction is passable, but the animation more than makes up for it. However, there is no narrative hook, which effectively makes this film seem like it’s ripped off The Croods, a film from animation rival DreamWorks. If you want to see it, wait for the DVD. This is a return to the Pixar we knew this time last year- very formulaic and pretty much lacking in emotional connection.
