First Take: Bridge of Spies- Spielberg is back in style
Plot in simpler terms- a true story about a New York lawyer who becomes the negotiator for the US soldiers captured by Germany during the Cold War
Spielberg. A director known for big hits and a few near misses. But he nails it with Bridge of Spies. It’s a brilliantly shot, aptly scripted film that shows how brutal the Cold War was on the people of America. The performances are sublime, with Tom Hanks possibly securing his place at the Oscar nominations stage. Thomas Newman’s music is used very well where it’s needed, and the direction is perfect, but I have a few issues with the script. There’s too much emphasis on complex dialogue, so you might want to bring your thinking caps for this one. Apart from that, this is a brilliant film.
Smit Rating- 4.5/5
