First Take: SPECTRE- The writing is definitely on the wall
Plot in simpler terms- Bond comes face to face with an old friend who claims to be the author of all his pain, all while trying to keep the 00-sector open
Now, Skyfall was good, but Sam Mendes knows how to do things bigger and better. This is the sequel Bond fans have craved, as it wraps up the loose ends of the last film, Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale with just one character. If I said who, I’d have to put a spoiler warning here. The performances from Daniel Craig, Lea Seydoux, Christoph Waltz and Ben Whishaw are superb, and the script packs a lot in to the 2 ½ hours of screentime. The music is also good, with Sam Smith’s theme song sounding much better alongside the opening titles, and Hoyte van Hoytema’s cinematography is flawless as usual. Unfortunately I have to knock a few marks off for the graphic nature of one scene where Oberhauser inflicts a lot of pain on Bond- people who have seen the film will know exactly why, as it just isn’t 12a material. Apart from that, this is the best Daniel Craig era film so far.
Smit Rating- 5/5
