First Ignition: TT Closer to the Edge- more brutal and hard hitting than a punch in the gut

Plot in simpler terms- follows the riders of the 2010 Isle of Man TT as they prepare for the world’s toughest road race.

Ah, it’s TT time again, and this film shows the good, the bad and the ugly side of the iconic 2 weeks in June. I wasn’t expecting much, but Richard De Aragues’ direction is spot on for a first timer, with the documentary elements taking pride of place in educating the new fans. Jared Leto’s narration is OK, but doesn’t intrude on the stories of the riders- the main thing that makes Closer to the Edge unique. It’s a tough watch but fans of road racing will love this.

TT week continues tomorrow with the Second Take of last year’s Road- a similar documentary but has more focus on the TT’s most well known family: the Dunlops.
