First Take: Avengers: Age of Ultron- we’re part of a bigger universe but we don’t know it yet

As spoiler free as it can get… for now.

Plot in simpler terms- picks up where Avengers Assemble left off, this time though the Avengers have to take down Stark and Banner’s peace project turned god Ultron

Now, for obvious reasons I cannot say much about the plot (as not everyone has seen the film at time of posting). But what I can say is that Joss Whedon has been able to write a bigger, more explosive sequel to one of the biggest films of all time. His direction is very good, with the cast led brilliantly by Robert Downey Jr. Speaking of the cast, Scarlett Johannson deserves particular mention as she was actually pregnant when she filmed this- and she still delivers brilliant action scenes. It’s shot very well and the music from Brian Tyler and Danny Elfman picks up the baton from the legendary Alan Silvestri very well. What I didn’t like was the lack of the traditional Marvel post-credits scene- really? REALLY? For that, I have no choice but to lower the mark a little.

SMIT RATING: 3.5/5 (4 if a post credits scene is added for home video release)
