First Take: Annie in Sony 4K- Modernising yet another classic

Plot in simpler terms- based on the musical we all know and love about a little orphan (foster kid in this version) who takes New York by storm

Now, this film has taken a lot of bad press because of what happened at Sony when it was released in December. What I can say is that it is a lot better than the press have made it out to be. Performances are generally good, with Quvenzhané Wallis proving her worth as a big name to look out for in the future. Also, Rose Byrne does an incredible job, because singing in a British accent when you’re actually an Aussie is a tough feat. Direction from Will Gluck is passable, and the arrangements for the original songs suit the setting.

Smit Rating: 3.5/5

SEE A CLIP FROM THE FILM: Never done this before, so this is a bit of a change. As it’s almost time for the DVD, here’s an actual clip from the film. This is a look at the most iconic song of the show- and they’ve done a good job of it because you can’t mess with It’s a Hard Knock Life too much…
