First Take: Notting Hill- I despise romcoms yet still reviewed it...
Plot in simpler terms- stereotypical Richard Curtis fayre, boy meets very famous girl and a whole series of events begin
As I sit here typing this I have to wonder why I agreed to do this. But, Notting Hill is Richard Curtis saying to the world ‘we are British and this is how we make film’. The combination of his script and the iconic pairing of Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant (and my new favourite comic actor Hugh Bonneville after his turn in Paddington) gives this film a unique charm. Narrative wise, I found it too confusing but as a whole it packs a punch. It might be in my most hated genre but all in all it was very enjoyable.
