First Take: Looper- Rian Johnson's hybrid of sci-fi and action ticks all the right boxes

Plot in simpler (well, as simple as I can get) terms- Set in 2044, a time where time travelling hasn’t been invented (but it will have in 30 years, and boy is it illegal), the film follows Joe, a man who kills people who have been sent back in time. When he has to close his loop (kill his older self) all hell breaks loose.

Looper is a very tough film to get your head around. Luckily, I got to see it with 25 other people, many of whom had actually seen it before. It has a unique style, and Rian Johnson’s attention to detail is clearly noticeable in the film’s cinematography. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis play their characters excellently and the narrative is told very well. The ending however is one of the best and most emotionally charged I’ve seen for a long time, so I won’t reveal too much about that. All I will say is see this if you want a very thought provoking film to talk about with friends.
