Indie First Take: The Guard- Brendan Gleeson has just proved that Irish comedy rocks.

Plot in simpler terms- Feisty Irish cop gets paired with no-nonsense American FBI agent to take down a sizable drug ring.

Irish film has always been a good thing, and this 2011 film proves that. Brendan Gleeson plays the stereotypical Irish Garda cop- lots of swearing and remarks about Catholics- to great effect, with Don Cheadle playing a very convincing FBI agent. Plot is very good, it’s edited very well as a whole but the cinematography lacks a little. Then again, it was done on a low budget. This is an independent cinematic gem.
