First Take: Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa- He is siege face...
SYPNOSIS:
When famous DJ Alan Partridge’s radio station is taken over by a new media conglomerate, it sets in motion a chain of events which see Alan having to work with the police to defuse a potentially violent siege.
As a fan of the character that has become quite a cult sensation here in the UK, I have waited so long to review this film, and my word, the wait was worth it. Declan Lowney has made a film that not only honours the near 20 year history of the Partridge character, but also introduces him to a new audience
Lowney’s direction is very good, with a nice and tight sense of pacing throughout a very funny 90 minutes. And with Steve Coogan, Armando Ianucci alongside Rob and Neil Gibbons behind the script, this is a ball of a film for the iconic Norwich DJ, and it translates very well to the big screen unlike many TV exports that have come before this.
Performance wise, a lot of the faces from I’m Alan Partridge are back, with Coogan as ever delivering a masterclass in deadpan comedy as Partridge, and with new cast members including Colm Meaney, there is a lot of great talent on show. It’s shot well by Ben Smithard, the music is good, and the 6 laugh test was easily passed.
THE VERDICT
Rating: 4/5
