First Take: Now You See Me- The closer you look, the less you'll see....
SYPNOSIS-
An FBI agent and an Interpol detective track a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances and reward their audiences with the money.
As a fan of magicians like Dynamo (whose unique card shuffle is copied at the start of the movie) I had high hopes for this film and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. Louis Leterrier has made a very finely tuned film, and it definitely shows, as he works from a brilliant script by Boaz Yakin, Ed Solomon and Edward Ricourt. The performances from the entire cast are incredible, as the team of Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher and Woody Harrelson make you question every detail of their plan- and only in this film can you see Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman have a HUGE argument with each other. However, the film uses very little in-camera tricks, instead opting to use CGI to create the grand scale of the illusions shown on-screen, and as a result of this, Now You See Me lacks the same believability that similar films like The Prestige exhibit so well.
THE VERDICT
While the film over-utilises CGI in its illusions, Now You See Me is one of the more unique films of the summer, and I reckon audiences will be charmed by this brilliant film about magic.
RATING: 4/5
